The all-new ES will refine the brand’s advanced electrification technologies while continuing to push the boundaries of the sedan’s signature quietness and ride comfort. Since its debut in 1989 as a 1990 model year vehicle, the Lexus ES has played a key role in the luxury brand’s global success. The original ES, codenamed V20, launched alongside the V8-powered LS 400 and offered a V6 engine in a more compact, accessible package. Designed to compete with rivals like the Acura Legend, the ES was based on the Toyota Camry—an approach that continued through its successive generations.

Over the decades, the ES has evolved significantly, with each generation refining its blend of comfort, refinement, and technology. From the short-lived first-generation to the more widely recognized second-gen redesign in 1991, the ES has consistently adapted to meet the demands of luxury sedan buyers. The nameplate progressed through a series of evolutionary leaps—from the third-gen XV20 (1997) to the fourth-gen XV30 (2002) and its successor, the fifth-gen XV40 (2006). The most recent generations have introduced even more premium features, hybrid powertrains, and enhanced driving dynamics.
