Two Top Five GTD PRO Finishes for Vasser Sullivan in Detroit

Jack Hawksworth and Ben Barnicoat achieved a second-place podium finish in the No. 14 Lexus RC F GT3 at the Detroit Street Circuit on Sunday. Their Vasser Sullivan teammates, Parker Thompson and Frankie Montecalvo, also delivered a strong performance, securing a fourth-place finish in the GTD PRO category during Saturday’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race.

Hawksworth began the race from third on the GTD PRO grid and swiftly moved up to second after a competitor required pit road repairs. Barnicoat took over the No. 14 Lexus on lap 20 and rejoined the race in second place. Despite a collision with a GTD PRO competitor that sent the Lexus into the wall and caused a steering issue, Barnicoat skillfully maintained his position, bringing the car home in second. This podium finish marks the second of the season for the defending GTD PRO champions, following their victory at the Twelve Hours of Sebring in March.

Meanwhile, Thompson and Montecalvo made their first GTD PRO starts in the Vasser Sullivan No. 15 Lexus, as the GTD class did not compete in Detroit. Montecalvo started 10th and handed the car over to Thompson early in the race. Together, they climbed through the GTD PRO field to finish fourth, marking their best result of the season.
