Get the Most from Test Drives

When it comes to test-driving new Lexus models, Lexus owners have an advantage-after all, they’re already experts. But that status is a good reason to approach Lexus-model test drives a little differently than a new driver. We checked in with a few Lexus of Northborough technology specialists, who offered these tips for current owners.

First of all, have a plan: This one may seem like a no-brainer, especially to successful, executive-minded Lexus owners. But given that most people tend to wing it, says one dealer product expert, and that Lexus of Northborough is here to serve your needs, it’s valuable to devise your personal test-drive game plan beforehand.

This, of course, is personal, such as knowing the top five features you love about your current model, then specifically evaluating them in the new model-year Lexus (or thinking about your desire to compare F SPORT versions to non-F-SPORT versions). No matter what, your test-drive consultant can help tailor the drives according to your parameters.

Re-create your daily drive: Lexus drivers know best how they most commonly use their models, points out one Lexus technology specialist, so it’s a great idea, for evaluation reasons, to seek out the types of traffic you encounter the most; Lexus of Northborough personnel can help suggest appropriate routes.

Definitely include an active parking lot: There’s almost no better place to familiarize yourself with any relatively recent camera-view technology, says another Lexus technology specialist, such as the RX’s panoramic view monitor.

Take the same freeway runs for Drive Mode Select: When test-driving models equipped with this feature (which can make the vehicle more responsive or efficient), a superb way to try out Sport mode is to use the same stretch of freeway-first in Normal mode, and then, after circling back to the same on-ramp, switching over to Sport mode. As you can guess, this allows you to examine the difference in similar conditions.

Test more than one model: It’s perfectly acceptable-in fact encouraged-to immediately head out in another vehicle after returning from a Lexus test drive; this is an ideal way, for example, to compare F SPORT and non-F SPORT versions of the same model, or hybrids and non-hybrids, or similar model types (like the SUVs).

Ask about our at-home test-drives: Not all Lexus dealerships offer this option, but it’s worth inquiring about. We offer at-home test-drive if you live within a certain radius from the dealership. This gives you the opportunity to spend time getting to know the vehicle without visiting the physical dealership. Give us a call and ask how you can schedule yours.
